Message from the Chairperson of THAG.

Dear Readers,

Hello and welcome to the new edition of Explore Guyana!

I hope that you will find it as intriguing and exciting as we find Guyana. Guyana is known as the “Land of Many Waters” In this issue we explore amongst other things life on our many rivers. It is also our pleasure to provide you with an insight into Guyana: our heritage, our history, our culture, our business, our lifestyle and most importantly our people.

We have just completed the successful hosting of the Rio Summit and of course the Super 8 games of the ICC’s Cricket World Cup. With our additional hotel accommodation, modern conference center and world-class stadium, Guyana stands poised and ready to host more major events. We are now looking forward to welcoming the world as we get set to host CARIFESTA X. We expect to be dazzled by the Caribbean’s premier cultural event. You are all invited.

But before that, there is Christmas, Mashramani(our carnival) and Easter to enjoy. There is no Christmas like a Guyanese Christmas, our Mashramani is a grand national celebration bringing all our people together and our Easter features an exciting regatta on the magnificent Essequibo river, itself a unique cruising destination.

To our brothers and sisters living outside of Guyana, when last did you enjoy a good, duck or hassa curry, lime till the sun comes up, swim in a refreshing creek, had black cake and mauby, awoken to the sounds of a huge variety of birds in song, fed the manatees, embraced the wonderful view of our garden city of Georgetown from the top of the lighthouse? It is time to come home again.

Tourism, is by its nature, an exploration of life on Planet Earth. When we travel we like to see wondrous sights, experience exciting culture and enjoy wonderful food. In Guyana we have it all, naturally.

Come! Be dazzled by our magnificent rivers, thunderous waterfalls, towering forests, delicious foods, exciting night life, and the most hospitable people in the Caribbean.

Let us beguile you in Guyana, it comes naturally.
